On July 30, the Poltava sports complex "Akvarena" is hosting two summer swimming championships in Ukraine simultaneously. One of the tournaments is being held among youth and juniors, while the other is for adult athletes in the "absolute" category. In total, 445 athletes from 19 regions of Ukraine are participating in these competitions. The youngest swimmer in the event is 12 years old.
Additionally, it was mentioned that less than half a year ago, "Akvarena" was opened. Within this time, the complex has already hosted its fourth Ukrainian championship.
The construction of "Akvarena" began in 2007 but was halted during the piling stage. Work on the sports complex resumed in 2014, with project changes in 2017. The official opening of "Akvarena" took place in March 2023, with a total cost of 255 million hryvnias from the regional and state budgets.
It's worth noting that "Akvarena" was initially planned to be opened in March 2022 but was delayed due to the start of the full-scale war against Ukraine.
