The "Honey Festival" has started in Poltava: how much it costs and what kind of harvest this year

Today, on August 10th, in Poltava, the 'Honey Festival' has started. Traditionally, it will last for 4 days, until August 13th.

Our journalists have investigated the cost of honey and the harvest for this year.

Annually, in the last month of summer, beekeepers from Poltava and other regions gather in the city center, near the M.V. Gogol Poltava Regional Theater, for the 'Honey Festival.' Craft products and beekeeping produce are brought here.

On the first day of the fair, a dozen beekeepers' tents were set up near the Gogol Theater. Opposite them, there was a row of tables with craft and souvenir items created by local artisans. Near each tent, several people were examining and purchasing the products.

- I visit the 'Honey Festival' every year. You can buy the best of the best products here, - says Vasyl Semenov from Poltava. - I just bought a liter of acacia honey. My wife doesn't like buckwheat honey for some reason. And I also got a bottle of mead for myself. I'll come back tomorrow for another one. We drink it instead of your champagne on New Year's Eve.

This year, the honey harvest is very weak, beekeepers note. Weather conditions have influenced this.

- It was cold. The bees hardly flew. We have a large apiary, so we managed to get something. Every year, there are many people at the exhibition, but this year, very few, because there's not much to bring, - says Mrs. Tetiana. She has an apiary in the village of Lany in Dykansk district.

Today, the price for half a liter of honey ranges from 75 to 200 hryvnias. It all depends on the type of honey. The most expensive one is linden honey.

The organizers of the "Honey Festival" - Poltava Beekeepers Association - announced that on Friday, August 11, at 5:00 PM, the band ONEROID will perform. During the festival, funds will also be raised for the purchase of a vehicle for the Poltava soldiers.
