During this day, the aggressor launched 6 missile strikes, including on the cities of Chasiv Yar, Kostyantynivka, and Kherson. Additionally, the Russian Federation carried out 25 airstrikes and more than 20 artillery shelling attacks. Private residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure were damaged and destroyed as a result.

President Volodymyr Zelensky met with a delegation from the U.S. state of Utah, led by Senate President Stuart Adams. The delegation included representatives from business and charitable organizations. A prayer breakfast was held in Poltava, attended by representatives of various Christian denominations, local authorities, and civil society. Due to security concerns related to potential provocations from Russia, schools in Poltava operated in a remote learning format on May 8 and 9, while preschools continued regular operations.

In the realm of law enforcement, a senior officer of the patrol police in Odesa was exposed for accepting bribes to facilitate the transportation of oversized cargo. It was revealed that he had established a systematic scheme for receiving bribes for escorting oversized cargo with a police vehicle. He assessed the cost of obtaining the necessary permit for transporting cargo at $300 USD and received a $600 USD bribe from a business owner.

On May 6, another 45 Ukrainian Defenders were successfully released from captivity. This group includes 42 male and 3 female members of the "Azovstal" unit from the National Guard of Ukraine, with 10 officers and 35 non-commissioned officers and privates among them.

Many of the released servicemen have injuries and serious health issues, and they will receive the necessary medical care, rehabilitation, social benefits, and financial support in Ukraine.
