On August 13, at the Svjato-Stritenskyi Church in Cherkasy (located in the Khimikiv Park), a divine liturgy was held in the Ukrainian language for the first time in years of Ukraine's independence. It was conducted by Bishop Ioan, Metropolitan of Cherkasy and Chyhyryn. This was reported by the Mayor of Cherkasy, Anatoliy Bondarenko, on his Facebook page.

In his post, Anatoliy Bondarenko informed that the residents of Cherkasy had previously gathered and expressed their position on what the Ukrainian church should be like in today's realities.

Because we cannot tolerate certain things today. For example, some priests of the so-called UOC-MP still bless the killers of our boys and girls in this brutal war with Russia. Thanks to Bishop Ioan for his important work, to the priests of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, and to everyone who, at this moment, is defending our right to speak our native language in Ukraine, - Anatoliy Bondarenko wrote.

Recall that earlier, all parishes in the city of Smila in Cherkasy region had switched to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

In June, the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, His Beatitude Metropolitan Epifaniy, consecrated the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Cherkasy. After the consecration of the church, he presented awards to members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, volunteers, and government representatives, including recognition by the Cherkasy Regional Council.
