On May 18th, International Museum Day is traditionally celebrated. In particular, there are 46 state and communal museums as well as 169 public museums in the Odessa region. These museums preserve almost 450,000 museum exhibits. This information has been reported by the Odessa Regional Military Administration.
The post on the OVA website mentions that Ukrainian museum workers have been celebrating International Museum Day for the second year in a row amidst full-scale war. The museums of the Odessa region have made every effort to preserve the region's cultural heritage. With the support of international donors, they have done everything to protect architectural and urban heritage, as well as items that belong to the State Museum Fund of Ukraine.
The museums in the region were able to resume their operations in May 2022. They managed to adapt to new realities, where stationary exhibitions are absent, air alarms are constantly sounding, and there are frequent power outages.
Despite this, throughout the year, the museums of the Odessa region held 239 exhibitions and 2786 excursions. They were visited by 164,000 people, including children, internally displaced persons, and people with disabilities.
"It is pleasant to note the active work not only of well-known Odessa museums but also of regional local history museums, including the Podilsk, Chornomorsk, Kodima, Zakhariv, Balti, Bilhorod-Dnistrovsky, Reni historical and local history museums, and more," the post states.
Recall that earlier in Odessa, the "For the Defense of Ukraine" award was presented.
