In Poltava Oblast, 14 people have lost their lives on water bodies since the beginning of the year. This figure is 29% higher than the previous year's statistics. Deputy Head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Poltava Oblast, Volodymyr Hryshanin, shared this information during a briefing at the official media center of Poltava. This data is reported on the website of Poltava Regional Military Administration.

"In May of this year alone, 6 people have lost their lives on water bodies in Poltava. Comparing this to May 2022 when only one person died, there is a significant increase in water-related fatalities. One tragic incident occurred on May 11 this year in the Reshetylivska hromada, where a father and son died while fishing. Almost all incidents of water-related fatalities occurred outside of specially designated swimming areas," said Volodymyr Hryshanin.

To reduce the number of such incidents, rescue workers are conducting a range of preventive measures. For instance, the representatives of the State Emergency Service sent letters to all hromada leaders in the region, offering to identify places of mass recreation on water bodies. Currently, there are 38 such designated recreational areas in the region.

Volodymyr Hryshanin also mentioned that since the beginning of the year, the rescue and diving services have conducted 78 surveys of the water areas at designated swimming locations. After a thorough check, they provided water section passports for these beaches.

Previously, it was reported that the Red Cross in Vinnytsia region would provide 137 multifunctional medical beds for facilities housing internally displaced persons.
