Ukrainian sixth-grader Illya Savchenko from the city of Stryzhavka, Vinnytsia region, won the 'silver' at the European Taekwondo Championship in the age category of 11-13 years and in the weight category of 45 kg. The competition took place in the Italian city of Jesolo, where 700 athletes from 32 countries gathered. This was reported by the head of the territorial community, Mykhailo Demchenko.

During the tournament, Illya achieved victory over Italian and Scottish opponents, and in the semi-finals, he faced another Ukrainian athlete. In the final, he secured the second place.

"In the age category of 11-13 years and in the weight category of 45 kg, Illya initially won against an Italian opponent, and in the semi-finals against a Scottish one. However, in the final, he took the second place in a match against another Ukrainian athlete," said Mykhailo Demchenko.

Illya is a 6th-grade student at Stryzhavka Lyceum No. 1 and has been practicing taekwondo in a sports and recreational club since the 2nd grade. He prepared for the European Championship for a year, participated in Ukraine's internal competitions, where he took third place.

"We started preparing for the European Championship back in September. Before this trip, we took part in the Ukrainian Championship and the Ukrainian Cup, securing third places. Oleksiy Petroschuk from Stryzhavka also went to the European Championship," said coach Yuriy Panas.

Recall that a sportswoman from Dnipro took third place in an international taekwondo tournament.
