Katerina Koltunova, the deputy head of the Kirovohrad Regional State Administration, held a meeting with Michelle Alfaro, the head of the sub-office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Ukraine. During the meeting, they discussed the cooperation between the Regional State Administration and the UNHCR Representation, as well as the issues faced by internally displaced persons. This was reported on the Kirovohrad Regional State Administration's Facebook page.
During the conversation, Michelle Alfaro mentioned that UNHCR focuses on the implementation of long-term projects, such as training for internally displaced persons, helping them acquire new skills, and providing prospects for arranging their own housing. Alfaro added that they expect proposals from the regional military administration on addressing these issues. The goal is to ensure that people have their own permanent housing and employment opportunities, as temporary living arrangements are not a long-term solution.
In response, Katerina Koltunova emphasized the importance of compiling a list of possibilities and ways to address the financing of housing construction or repairs for resettled individuals. She stressed that the local authorities in Kirovohrad region work daily to make people who have chosen the region for living feel at home. In addition to housing and employment matters, they pay significant attention to mental health by establishing psychological hubs where they assist both internally displaced persons, military families, and everyone affected by the Russian aggression in Ukraine.
It was previously reported that in Oleksandriia, Kirovohrad region, they are prepared to accept people and animals from the flooded areas of Kherson region.
