In the 2023/2024 academic year, several regions of Ukraine will receive financial support as part of a joint project with the United Nations World Food Programme. This support aims to improve the organization of school nutrition, benefiting both school meals and territorial communities that can provide hot meals to students in grades 1-4. Among the participating regions is Odessa. This project is currently being implemented in the region as part of the school nutrition reform, overseen by Ukraine's First Lady, Olena Zelenska.
In Odessa, the reform involves modernizing food preparation in educational institutions, updating the equipment in the food service areas, and renewing the school cafeteria menus. As part of this reform, schools in Odessa have been designated to implement three technological models for meal organization, including a basic kitchen, a supporting kitchen, and a factory kitchen.
Previously, culinary hubs were opened in Poltava. A two-day professional and practical training was conducted at the newly established culinary hub in Kremenchuk, based at the Center for Vocational Education #1. The first students at the hub were 20 master craftspeople from vocational education institutions in Poltava, Hadiach, Reshetylivka, and Kremenchuk, and they prepared ten dishes during their training.
