Mikhail Kokhan, an athlete from the Dnipropetrovsk region, emerged victorious at the Gyulai Istvan Memorial tournament held in Hungary. The Ukrainian athlete managed to throw the hammer to a distance of 79.37 meters, surpassing even the result of the Polish athlete Wojciech Nowicki, who was the Olympic champion in 2020. This achievement secured the Dnipropetrovsk region its second qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. This information was reported by the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration.
- It's already our second Olympic qualification! All thanks to the incredible result that Mikhail Kokhan demonstrated at the Gyulai Istvan Memorial tournament. Keep it up! - wrote Oleksandr Pshenychnikov, head of the Department of Youth and Sports of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration.
As a reminder, the first qualification for the Olympic Games was obtained by Alexander Zheltyakov, a swimmer from Dnipropetrovsk.
Previously, the boxer from Poltava, Alexander Khizhniak, secured his qualification for the Paris Olympics and shared his journey to this victory. At the previous Olympic Games, Alexander narrowly missed the triumph and won a silver medal. Now, he plans to win the gold in his weight category.
In addition, Poltava recently hosted the first sports competition among veterans, titled "Strong Ukraine." Over a hundred veterans from Poltava and neighboring regions participated in the event. Poltava became the first city to host such competitions, and similar events are scheduled for Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Ivano-Frankivsk, Cherkasy, and Kryvyi Rih.
