In the city of Kherson, rescuers and municipal workers from the Poltava region continue to work. They are helping local residents clean the streets and buildings that were flooded after a terrorist act by Russian occupiers involving the dam of the Kakhovska HPP. The work of the Poltava team in Kherson was reported by the Poltava Regional Military Administration.
This week, Maxim Kalinin, Deputy Head of the Poltava Regional Military Administration, visited Kherson. He met with Oleksandr Proskudin, Head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration. Together, representatives from both regions discussed the assistance provided by Poltava and the remaining needs in Kherson.
Maxim Kalinin noted that currently, four brigades of municipal workers are working alternately in Kherson, along with employees of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Poltava region and voluntary fire protection units. They are working under challenging conditions, including pumping water out of buildings and clearing roads of debris and mud.
Rescuer Maxim Shatilov explained that their equipment was initially deployed in one area of the city and is now continuing its work in another. After the water receded, various objects were left scattered, including on the rooftops of multi-story buildings.
One of the hardest-hit areas of Kherson due to flooding is a district called "Ostrov" (Island). Municipal workers from the Lubensky district of the Poltava region are assisting in clearing the aftermath of the flooding. For example, tractor driver Roman Boyko volunteered to help the residents of Kherson. He mentioned that all items appeared to have gone through a meat grinder after the flood, and even the walls of buildings couldn't withstand the force of the water.
Previously, it was reported that Poltava sent 40 volunteers to Kherson.
