Ukrainian rescuers have already begun work on mitigating the consequences of the disaster in Slovenia. This was reported by the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Igor Klymenko, in a Telegram message.
"Our professionals know their job well. A few initial meetings, and the work is in full swing. This is how the EU Civil Protection Mechanism works - a format of mutual support and assistance," wrote Klymenko.
As previously reported, a group of Ukrainian rescuers was sent to Slovenia to assist the neighboring country in overcoming the consequences of flooding. Austria and Slovenia have suffered from heavy rains since August 3. The torrential rains have caused floods, landslides, and dam breaches. At least four people are known to have died. Several towns are without electricity, and three bridges have collapsed. Sections of highways and rural roads are submerged. Slovenia estimates the flood damage at over half a billion euros.
Ukrainian rescuers were dispatched to Slovenia following the signing of a relevant decree by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and an order from the Cabinet of Ministers to form a flood response module. Ukrainian rescuers are participating in relief efforts in the northeastern part of the Republic of Slovenia. The group consists of over fifty rescuers and 19 units of specialized equipment.
Earlier, we reported that rescuers from the Vinnytsia region tested a modern Italian firefighting installation. With the help of this equipment, firefighters can drill holes in metal and reinforced concrete structures to gain faster access to the site of a fire.
