The leader of the Pavlohrad Search and Rescue Canine Team "Antares," Larisa Borysenko, has been awarded the Order of Princess Olga, 3rd degree. Larisa Borysenko announced this on her social media page.
"It is a great honor for me. A very valuable award. Very much so. I am happy that this order, with which I was honored for my life and deeds 'before,' has finally been presented to me personally. There were options... I really want to be worthy of this award in my life 'after.' After my second birthday," commented Larisa Borysenko.
The significance of this award is tied to the date in the order's booklet, which is March 7, 2023. However, this year, on March 26, Larisa's life was divided into "before" and "after" when she and her canine partner were injured by an explosion while performing a search mission for fallen Ukrainian defenders. She underwent numerous surgeries and was finally discharged from the hospital in July.
It's worth noting that in anticipation of International Children's Day, Cherkasy's canine handlers and their four-legged partners visited Cherkasy Secondary School No. 22. The law enforcement canine handlers spoke to the children about service dogs, their personalities, habits, and the work they do in their roles.
Additionally, Kropyvnytskyi's rescuers are training dogs to search for people under rubble. It takes about a year to train a dog for this type of work. The German Shepherds Derek and Jokonda are serving as rescue dogs for Kropyvnytskyi's rescuers. Their owner, Alina Khrustalyova, has been working as a canine handler in emergency services for 10 years.
