Odessa athlete Renata Podolyan will not participate in the World Taekwondo Championship due to the participation of Russians and Belarusians in these competitions. This was announced by the Department of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine in the Odessa region.
The decision for the Ukrainian national taekwondo team not to participate in the 2023 World Championship was communicated by the Vice President of the Taekwondo Federation of Ukraine, Sergiy Vasilchenko. The championship is scheduled to take place in Baku from May 29 to June 6.
Renata Podolyan was supposed to compete in the "+73 kg" category and is currently with the Ukrainian national team in Italy, preparing for the competition.
In other news, Ukrainian sixth-grader Ilya Savchenko from Strizhavka, Vinnytsia region, won the "silver" at the European Taekwondo Championship in the 11-13 age category and in the 45 kg weight category. The competition took place in the Italian city of Jesolo, with the participation of 700 athletes from 32 countries.
Additionally, athlete Maria Leonova from Dnipro secured the third place at the international Taekwondo E-2 Multi European Game tournament. Maria Leonova won the bronze medal among junior women in the weight category of -63 kg in this competition, held in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, from May 10 to May 14. This information was shared on the official Facebook page of the city's specialized youth sports school for Olympic reserve.
